2008 Harvard-Brazil Symposium: Environment & the Sciences

The 2008 Harvard–Brazil Symposium was the second in a series of annual symposia designed to deepen collaboration between Harvard faculty and their Brazilian counterparts to advance research and teaching opportunities. By bringing together a small and focused group that includes Harvard faculty from several disciplines as well as distinguished Brazilian scholars, practitioners and policy makers, the Brazil Office and Brazil Studies Program at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS) seek to establish a solid foundation for collaborative action and impact in Brazil and at the University.

The main topic areas selected for discussion at the 2008 Symposium, given the expertise and focus of participants were:
- the breaking point of regional climate change;
- the risk of transforming the Amazon into savanna;
- air pollution and human health;
- the environmental impact of biofuels;
- water resources management;
- loss of biodiversity.
