Collaborative Course on Infectious Diseases

This collaborative course was offered by the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) and the Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo Medical School (Santa Casa) with the support of the Brazil Studies Program at Harvard University's David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS) from January 6 to January 21, 2008. The course included professors and professionals from numerous leading public health institutions in Brazil.

The course focused on several infectious diseases, such as schistosomiasis, leishmaniasis, malaria, dengue, Chagas disease and yellow fever, that are present in Brazil. The students gained an overview of these diseases and emphasis was given to the relationship between health, disease and the socio-economic and community factors in the context of Brazil.
