Individual Research

Deadline: March 15th (for fall)
Amount: $10,000

Applications for individual research grants are reviewed once a year by the Center's Research Committee. The Committee will not accept more than one proposal from a faculty applicant per year, and will not fund multiple applications for the same project from collaborating faculty members. The Research Committee gives priority to faculty members who have not previously received grants.

The Center offers research grants to support summer and academic-year research by Harvard faculty in all disciplines. The maximum award is $10,000. Grants may be used for:
- travel, research assistance, or acquisition of research materials including electronic databases.
- research meetings and workshops. For larger workshops and conferences; see Grants to Support Events.
- expenses related to leadership roles in regionally focused professional organizations such as LASA, CSA, and the LACEA or disciplinary associations such as the AAA, AEA, AHA, APSA, and MLA.
- communication with colleagues and institutions in other countries for research or other professional purposes.
- supplementing sabbatical pay or other research-leave stipends. Grants may not be used to "buy time" for course reduction or to increase salary.
- computer software and databases, but not for hardware.
