Outreach
The David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS)
promotes awareness of and teaching on Latin America across an array of
disciplines both within Harvard University and to outside audiences. In
addition to support for faculty and students in research and courses,
DRCLAS reaches beyond the University, promoting learning about the
region to elementary, middle and high school teachers and students as
well as the community at-large. Funding from the United States
Department of Education’s “Title VI” program designates DRCLAS a
National Resource Center on Latin America. That support allows the
Center to offer:
Faculty support for interdisciplinary research
Curriculum development
Courses in less commonly taught languages (Haitian Creole, Nahuatl, Yucatec Maya and Portuguese)
School field trips to Harvard’s museums with Latin America- related collections
Teacher training workshops
Summer School course for teachers*
