The Harvard University Fact Book published by the Office of Budgets, Financial Planning and Institutional Research is an excellent resource providing an introduction to the University, as well as its research and teaching activities.
For information on admissions, please consult the admissions and financial aid areas of each Harvard School 's website. Individual Schools maintain their own admissions and financial aid offices in Cambridge/Boston, Massachusetts (USA) with specialized staffs to meet the needs of prospective students. The Brazil Office is not an admissions or financial aid office. Prospective students should seek up-to-date information at http://www.harvard.edu/admissions [13]
What is the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS)?
The David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies promotes teaching and research about Latin America at Harvard University . The Center was founded in 1994 to fill a growing need for innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to the study of Latin American politics and culture. Today, as one of Harvard's most established inter-faculty initiatives, the Center draws intellectual resources from throughout the University and a global community of scholars.
The Center provides support to Harvard students and Harvard faculty engaged in Latin American studies across abroad range of disciplines by offering grants and a variety of other services. The Center also functions as an engine for activity relating to the region at Harvard by sponsoring events and a number of academic conferences. In addition, it serves as a clearing house for information on Latin America-related events and scholarship in the New England region. Through a variety of publications, initiatives and events, DRCLAS fulfills its mission of promoting scholarship, strengthening ties between Harvard and institutions in the region, and enhancing public understanding of Latin America in the United States and abroad.
What is the Brazil Studies Program at DRCLAS?
The joint efforts of Harvard University faculty members from diverse disciplines, Harvard students, Brazilian institions, and the local Brazilian community continue to strengthen Brazil Studies at Harvard. Support from an endowment established by Jorge Paulo Lemann AB '61 enables the Brazil Studies Program to convene experts from the United States and abroad to expand and diversify research and teaching on Brazil at Harvard University. The program coordinates Brazil-related activities at DRCLAS and works in close coordination with the Brazil Office.
The mission of the Brazil Studies Program in Cambridge and the Brazil Office in São Paulo is to enhance collaborative research among Harvard faculty and their Brazilian counterparts; encourage faculty engagement with Brazil and student participation in language programs, internships and research projects in Brazil ; and provide a hospitable environment for Brazilians at Harvard and for Harvard scholars in Brazil .
Does DRCLAS operate as a for-profit or not-for-profit entity in Brazil ?
How can the DRCLAS Brazil Office assist Harvard faculty planning to visit Brazil to advance research, attend conferences or to participate in meetings?
Yes. The Brazil Studies Program and Brazil Office provide support to Harvard students interested in research and studies in Brazil. Harvard students should consult both the Student Services section of this website for information on the resources available to Harvard students, including grants.
Yes. Distinguished Brazilian scholars may apply to be Visiting Scholars at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS) in Cambridge . Information on this program is available at http://drclas.fas.harvard.edu/resources [23] . Applicants to the Scholars program must have a doctorate or an equivalent level of academic preparation, while Fellows should have significant professional experience related to Latin America and a clearly defined research project related to the region.

Each of Harvard University 's undergraduate and graduate schools has a financial aid office in Cambridge or Boston (USA). The Brazil Office in São Paulo does not receive applications for financial aid and does not award financial aid, scholarships, or grants.
In addition to Harvard's generous financial aid policies, which are directly administered by individual schools (see http://www.harvard.edu/academics/ [37] ), a new program of scholarships and fellowships significantly increases support for Brazilian students to attend Harvard College (undergraduate) as well as the Graduate School of Education (GSE), the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH), and the Kennedy School of Government (KSG), without regard to the students' ability to pay. The establishment of the new scholarships is made possible by a gift from Jorge Paulo Lemann AB '61. The Lemann Fellowships are administered by the Committee on General Scholarships and are awarded after applicants have been accepted to the GSE, HSPH, or KSG.
