IFCLAS Programs
IFCLAS sponsors a variety of activities to give visibility and promote scholarship about Latinos at Harvard. It also serves as a clearinghouse for resources and ongoing research efforts at the University relating to Latinos. While seeking to strengthen scholarship, IFCLAS does not engage in research. This activity happens at the individual faculty level or through other collaborative efforts.
IFCLAS activities include:
- Sponsorship and coordination of events and presentation, including a Spring lecture series.
- Serving as a clearing house for resources and activities about Latinos, including events sponsored by student organizations and other units across the University.
- Promoting connections with area colleges and faculty engaged in Latino studies. To this end, IFCLAS manages an electronic news listserv, NElatinofaclist. This listserv is an initiative of the Greater Boston Latino Consortium, founded in the Spring of 2004. The list is a forum for academics, University administrators and activists committed to the development of Latino studies and Latino community development in the area.
- Developing resources for students at Harvard interested in Latino Studies and promoting their academic engagement in this area. These include the development of a brochure about Latino Studies at Harvard and the launching of the IFCLAS Annual Thesis Award recognizing the best undergraduate thesis about Latinos at Harvard.
