January 7-21, 2009
Development and Organizations: New Paths to Success
Faculty Lead: Tamara Kay, Assistant Professor of Sociology, Harvard University
The 2009 Puerto Rico Winter Institute will be an examination and discussion of the role of organizations in development. The focus will not only be on development organizations themselves, but also in the local, national, and regional organizations that set development agendas, and mediate development projects. An examination of the role of organizations is critical not only to understanding development success and failure, but also to ensuring that human rights considerations be incorporated into development goals. Example cases will include the international work done by the Sesame Workshop with a session led by its president, Gary Knell.
