We are increasingly recognizing that the world is much more interconnected than we have acknowledged in the past. The global impact of the recent financial crisis is but one example. We also must recognize that the world’s most important problems will not be solved by one sector – whether it is government, business or the social sector – alone. The magnitude of the problems facing the countries of the world – economic, social and environmental - and the incredible opportunities that await us – science, art and communication – need the powers and strengths inherent in the three sectors. We have many experiments and policies in multi-sector partnerships that we might learn from as we think about how to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of these arrangements.
The 2010 PRWI examines this range of issues and practices. Sessions will illustrate a range of cross-sector theory, frameworks and examples. Possible topics may include:
- -Government Contracting: Problems of agency, accountability, performance incentives and measurements. (examples: social services)
- -Private management of public assets and services: Experience with selling toll roads, utilities. (examples: PR Water supply system)
- -Private management for public improvement: Charter schools
- -Nonprofit – Government partnerships: Environmental management in Peru; Developing housing in slums in Mumbai; Improving public education in Puerto Rico (Sapientis)
-
- -International Development: relationships between aid organizations and host countries (health care in Haiti; school reform in Brazil)
