The DRCLAS Regional Office created a series of teleconference opportunities in 2003 for Argentine corporate, agricultural, education and political leaders with the participation of Harvard faculty in multidisciplinary topics of interest such as politics, sustainable development, education and economy. The initiative was the brainchild of Harvard Biology Professor Otto Solbrig and Gustavo Grobocopatel, the head of biotechnology group Los Grobo. The series took place on the first Tuesday of each month. Each seminar began with the presentation by a Harvard professor, followed by an exchange of ideas with the Argentine audience at multiple sites throughout Argentina and Uruguay. The talks included different issues related to Latin America as: political relations between Latin America and the United States, institutional development, civic education, democratic participation, and economic growth in Latin America. Faculty are currently working on a new series of teleconferences to take place during 2006.
