Clinical Rotations at HMS

The Harvard Medical School (HMS) has created a special opportunity for Chilean students in their final year of studying medicine at the University of Chile and the Catholic University to participate in a month-long clinical rotation (or possibly two one-month rotations) at the Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. Through a special initiative coordinated by the HMS Office of Enrichment Programs and the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies, Chilean students are able to participate in the Harvard Medical School Exchange Clerkship program for free. (International medical school students who participate in this program are typically charged $2,850 US for the month long clinical rotation experience.)
In addition, Chilean students are eligible for a stipend from the HMS of up $750 for the month-long program to help cover some of their expenses in Boston. In a reciprocal arrangement, Harvard Medical School students in their final years can participate in month-long clinical rotations at the University of Chile and Catholic University in Chile without any charges. HMS normally accepts 6 to 8 students yearly per university.
If you are currently a seventh year student at the PUC or UCH Medical School, and are interested in applying to the Exchange Clerkship program at HMS:
° Complete all the documentation required
° Proof of Insurance is required in ENGLISH that specify coverage and dates
° As part of the application process, there is a required interview by a Harvard University representative. To set up an appointment, please contact Pilo Mella
Housing is the responsibility of the students. We recommend checking listings such as Craig’s List for local spaces for rent.
Important: We recommend not applying for July and August as this is vacation period in Boston, and there are fewer courses available.
The HMS Registrar's office asks for the immunization reports, the health insurance, and the transcripts all to be translated into English.
