The Harvard University semester study abroad program (SAP) in Santiago, Chile provides Harvard College students with the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Chilean culture and the Spanish language for a period of five months while receiving Harvard credit.
Students attend classes with Chilean university students and can choose from a wide variety of classes offered at three of the country's top universities, the Catholic University, the University of Chile, and the University of Adolfo Ibáñez. Additionally, students have the option to follow pre-designed study tracks in human rights and public health and community service, or they may design their own course of study. Many students also choose to complete an internship to complement their academic and personal experience. The Harvard DRCLAS Regional Office is available to help students locate such opportunities.
To enhance the cultural and linguistic experience, students live with local families. In addition, the DRCLAS Regional Office staff organizes an orientation week to ensure the students' smooth transition into life abroad and provides ongoing support as the need arises.
Harvard College students who are coming to study for a semester need a visa.
Students studying in Santiago are invited to take a DRCLAS-organized trip to Buenos Aires.
