Human Rights Study Abroad Program in Chile

Fall 2010 Application Deadline:  Monday, March 15, 2010

Program Dates:
Spring Semester 2010: Monday, February, 22nd until mid-July
Fall Semester 2010: Wednesday, July 28th until mid-December

DRCLAS in coordination with the University of Chile’s (UCH) Law School and the Harvard Committee on Human Rights offers a Study Abroad Program and an internship opportunity for Harvard College students interested in human rights. Students have the opportunity to pair coursework at the UCH Law School with a practicum in an NGO or Human Rights organization, and, they should choose, independent field work in human rights topics.

Chile offers an extraordinary combination of human rights themes and cases, including a well-known history of human rights violations, particularly during the dictatorship in the 1970s and 1980s.

Students participating in the Harvard Program must take at least 30 credits, usually three courses to receive credit for a full semester from Harvard. One of these courses may be an independent study course on human rights, working with a Harvard faculty member.
