- Learn about Latin American culture

- The Remote Summer Program (RSP) offers students the opportunity to engage with Latin America in a meaningful manner that will help shape professional skills, cultural knowledge, and language capabilities. Students that enroll are expected to maintain flexible, proactive, and positive attitudes towards engaging with Latin America. The program enables students to build connections both within and surrounding Latin America, through its supervisor and mentorship matching, and student community building activities.

###    Eligibility  expand\_more  

 

 The program is open to Harvard undergraduate and graduate students with an intermediate, advanced, or native level of Spanish or Portuguese\*.

 Curiosity, a positive attitude, and an open-mind are necessary for the participant to not only succeed, but to foster a welcoming environment for others as well. The remote nature of this program requires that participants are proactive, responsible, and independent.

 Participants are not permitted to enroll in any other summer courses or experiences throughout the duration of this program.

 *\*Some Brazilian organizations may be eligible for English-only speakers. Please read organization descriptions thoroughly.*



 

 

 



###    Internship  expand\_more  

 

- Students will be matched with a local host organization from Latin America to carry-out a mutually beneficial, professional enrichment opportunity.
- Students will be enabled to virtually contribute in a meaningful manner to their host organizations current needs and demands.
- Internships will take place in the language matched with the student's skills and goals (Spanish or Portuguese, and in some cases, English).
- Students are expected to work part-time, Monday - Friday, for an estimated 30-35 hours a week. 
    - Based on both the student's and organization's local time zones, actual hours of work may be flexible and outside of a standard 9am-5pm.
- Students will be in regular communication with their internship supervisor.
- Students will submit final deliverables and present on their experience to their organizations and DRCLAS.



 

 

 



###    Culture  expand\_more  

 

- All participants are required to engage in DRCLAS planned and facilitated cultural activities.
- Cultural activities are geared towards creating and building a deeper historical and contemporary awareness of Latin America.
- Sessions are coordinated and run by DRCLAS staff, faculty affiliates, alumni, and in-country collaborators.
- Cultural programming is planned to take part on Fridays, with occasional opportunities for mid-week sessions.
- Cultural programming may vary in the language it is offered.
    
    
    - Cohorts may be utilized for breakout sessions, based on students' language levels and the language of presenter/activity.

 Participants will select an additional enrichment challenge to tackle over the duration of the program. Students will work in small groups and detail their collaborations during their final presentations. Examples of enrichment include:

- Pre-texts Pedagogy Development
- Migration: Roots and Ramifications
- Arts for Social Impact

PROGRAM COSTS- Remote Summer Program (RSP) fee is $300 (including the confirmation deposit).
- There is a nonrefundable $50 confirmation deposit for students who accept and confirm their placement in the program, which is deducted from the final program fee. 
    - The deposit will directly cover expenses relating to cultural programming and administrative costs.
    - The deposit is charged upon confirmation of participation.

 AVAILABILITY OF FUNDING- DRCLAS will offer stipends for confirmed participants that engage in the full 8 week remote program. 
    - This stipend requires that the student engages fully in all aspects of the program, for its entire duration.

 ***Please Note:*  
*All confirmation deposits are nonrefunable. Students who cancel their participation anytime between May 1 - 27 will be charged an additional $75 for RSP. Students who cancel their participation anytime after May 28 will be charged the full RSP program fee.***

- Organizations are categorized by their priority theme or area.
- Many organizations are multidisciplinary- please check options thoroughly!
- Students should reference at least 1 and no more than 3 organizations of interest in their application.
- Staff may offer students a different organization/placement upon applicant review, depending on the best fit for both the studnt and internship partner
- Students should identify the most important aspects of their placement prior to apply (i.e: country base, field, type of project, etc.)

###    Co-sponsored Public Service Internship  expand\_more  

 

In collaboration with the [Center for Public Service and Engaged Scholarship](https://publicservice.fas.harvard.edu/) (CPSES), DRCLAS will offer *up to* eight co-sponsored internship slots within either SIP Brazil, SIP Chile and/or SIP Mexico for currently enrolled Harvard College students placed with the specified social impact-driven organizations. Eligible opportunities are noted online and listed throughout the internship offerings, in their respective area/thematic categories, as well as below. College students with relevant experience in public service and Spanish language skills are invited to apply! Please note your interest in the collaborative internship opportunity on your DRCLAS SIP Application (in CARAT).  
  
Please note: students who obtain one of the co-sponsored internship offerings will be asked to submit additional reviews, forms, and/or feedback, reporting to both DRCLAS and CPSES throughout and after their experience.
