This presentation explores how multicultural, multilingual, and inclusive contexts can strengthen learning for all students. The discussion will be led by Gabrielle Oliveira, a professor at Harvard University and a researcher in the fields of migration, mobility, and education, whose academic work focuses on understanding the experiences of immigrant children and their families in transnational contexts across the Americas.

Drawing on research that connects anthropology and education, the session will examine the relationships between family trajectories, school experiences, and processes of schooling in diverse settings. Based on two case studies—one in Brazil and one in the United States—the presentation will highlight educational practices that recognize and value different linguistic repertoires, migration paths, and life experiences in everyday learning environments.

The analysis shows how interaction among students from multiple backgrounds can expand opportunities for learning, collaboration, and shared knowledge-building. By highlighting concrete examples, the presentation invites reflection on the role of schools in creating more welcoming, equitable, and pedagogically strong environments for all students.
