In the twenty-first century, it was assumed that Latin American militaries had finally been brought under civilian control, and that challenges to democracy would not come from the barracks. Recent developments in several countries have raised the question of whether this optimism was premature. Panelists will discuss the role the military has played in recent years, and debate whether military intervention in politics is once again on the horizon.
