Chan School of Public Health; Chair, Brazil Studies Program - DRCLAS; Faculty Affiliate, Center for International Development Join us to learn about how [G10 Favelas](https://www.g10favelas.org/), a Brazilian NGO inspired by the Group of Seven (G7), works to enact social innovation and change across ten of Brazil´s largest favelas and beyond. G10 leaders will discuss some of their initiatives, challenges, and future aspirations. They will focus on projects such as: Favela Brasil Xpress, a logistics startup focused on last-mile e-commerce delivery; Street Presidents (Presidentes de Rua), a system for civic engagement that was an effective tool for assisting communities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic; Costurando Sonhos Brasil, an enterprise that promotes financial independence for women by offering courses and jobs in the fashion industry; G10 Bank, a fintech aimed at stimulating local businesses and financial inclusion; and G10 Stock Exchange, facilitating investments in businesses across Brazilian favelas. He has a Bachelors degree in Systems Analysis and Development from Centro Universitário Ítalo Brasileiro and is a member of Global Shapers - World Economic Forum. He led the “Street Presidents” administration team in the fight against COVID-19 in Brazilian favelas and was voted Social Entrepreneur of the Year by Folha de S.Paulo. **Suéli Feio** is one of the Creators and Co-Founders of Costurando Sonhos Brasil, a sewing training project that has generated income for many women in the Paraisópolis community. She made Paraisópolis her home 26 years ago, when she migrated from the state of Pará. For the past four years she has been contributing to the financial independence of local women, especially those suffering from domestic violence and experiencing high degrees of social vulnerability. Her endeavors have earned her recognition from the Chamber of Deputies with the 'Carlota Pereira de Queirós Diploma', which honors women who contribute to the defense of women's rights. **Rosilane Queiroz** is a 41-year-old married woman from the Northeast of Brazil. Born to humble parents and mother to a boy named Miguel, Queiroz has worked in finance for over 10 years. With a degree in Economics and a Postgraduate degree in Business Management, she is the Financial Coordinator of G10 Favelas, where she provides counsel to support agile and assertive decision-making. She believes in the possibility of eradicating poverty and hunger through the democratization of economic resources, involving everything from financial education, entrepreneurship, and the circular economy. She was a volunteer at “União na Massa” and today she works at G10 Favelas and is dedicated to the collective objective of doing good for the most vulnerable people, especially peripheral women, single mothers, and those without income. **Marcia Castro** is Andelot Professor of Demography, Chair of the Department of Global Health and Population at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, and Chair of the Brazil Studies Program of the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS). Her research focuses on the development and use of multidisciplinary approaches to identify the determinants of infectious disease transmission in different ecological settings to inform control policies. She has more than 15 years of collaboration with Brazilian researchers, Health Secretariats, and the Ministry of Health particularly related to infectious diseases. She made important contributions during recent public health emergencies (the Zika virus epidemic and the COVD-19 pandemic). Castro has projects on malaria, COVID-19, arboviruses, infant/child mortality and development, and climate change in the Brazilian Amazon. Specifically, on COVID-19 she has been assessing the spatiotemporal pattern of COVID-19 spread in Brazil, mortality, and fertility changes due to the pandemic, risk factors for mortality, and vaccine effectiveness. She serves on several advisory boards in Brazil, including the Institute for the Studies of Health Policies (IEPS), the Science Center for Early Childhood (NCPI), and Instituto Todos Pela Saúde (ITpS).
