 Interested in spending six weeks in Brazil during Summer 2024 studying Portuguese and learning about contemporary struggles for justice, equity, and rights? Join us for this Harvard Summer School info session to learn about the program structure, objectives, dates, and details.

 Speakers **Cristiane Soares**, Senior Preceptor in Portuguese and **Tiago Genoveze**, Brazil Studies Program Director.

 **Dr. Cristiane Soares** has a B.A in Portuguese and Brazilian Literature, a M.A in Applied Linguistics, and a Ph.D in Luso-Afro-Brazilian Studies and Theory. Cristiane has fifteen year of experience teaching Portuguese as a foreign and heritage language in the United States.

 Before coming to Harvard, Cristiane spent twelve years coordinating the Portuguese Program at Tufts University, where she created a Minor in Portuguese. Cristiane has taught language courses at all levels and culture courses like Brazilian music, Brazilian cinema, Brazilian folklore, Introduction to Brazilian Culture and History, and Portuguese in the Community.

 Cristiane is currently Senior Preceptor and Coordinator of the Portuguese language program. Her current research focuses on Portuguese pedagogy, Portuguese as a foreign and heritage language, and inclusive and non-binary language in Portuguese.

 **Tiago Genoveze** joined the David Rockefeller Center´s Brazil Office in April 2017 and transferred to the Cambridge office in May 2019. As Program Director, Tiago is in charge of the day-to-day operations of the Brazil Studies Program. These involve a myriad of activities that range from developing new initiatives, engaging with professors and students from across the University’s Schools, as well as executing events at Harvard on topics related to Brazil.

 Prior to joining DRCLAS, Tiago facilitated the learning experiences of foreign students researching health, cities and social entrepreneurship in São Paulo. In 2014, Tiago published Miradas de Solentiname: fotografías y reflexiones, a photography book featuring images taken by children and teenagers from Solentiname, Nicaragua, which includes a prologue by Ernesto Cardenal. The pictures included in the book were taken over a year’s worth of photography workshops that Tiago coordinated as a volunteer in 2010.

 Tiago also has experience teaching English to children and adults using affective learning strategies; organizing literary discussion groups and workshops; and translating contemporary Brazilian literature to English. Tiago holds a BA in English from Boston University and a Certificate in Literary Translation from Casa Guilherme de Almeida.
