#  Faculty Events-Based Grants

DRCLAS Faculty Events-Based Grants offer Harvard faculty funding support for research conferences, seminar series, workshops, and other event formats. Proposed events may take place in Cambridge or Latin America and the Caribbean, but must include robust participation of Harvard faculty and students regardless of event location. Applicants are responsible for identifying, contacting, and coordinating (dates, travel, accommodations, etc.) with potential speakers. Proposals mainly funded by DRCLAS should be branded as DRCLAS events.

The program will accept only one proposal per faculty applicant per year and will not fund multiple or repeat applications for the same project from collaborating faculty members. Priority will be given to:

- Interdisciplinary proposals engaging faculty from more than one department or school.
- Proposals that foster research collaborations with scholars from the region and/or institutional support from their respective universities.
- Faculty members who have not previously received grants.
- Projects with meaningful Harvard student participation.

DRCLAS will consider small, event-based off-cycle grants (typically up to $2,000) for projects that fall outside of the above categories and deadlines. The applicant must be a Lecturer, Senior Preceptor, Assistant, Associate or full Professor employed full-time by Harvard University in any Harvard Department or School. Applicants from the Harvard Medical School must be an Assistant, Associate or full Professor employed full-time by Harvard University and teaching Harvard students at the time of the application. Final decisions about eligibility will be determined during the review process. Prior applicants and awardees to this fund from past years are welcome to apply again.

- Application Form (available during the application period).
- The application form will ask you to upload the following documents directly into the application:
- Proposal (up to 1,000 words that succinctly describe the proposed event, its significance, expected impact, participation of Harvard students and faculty, and any proposed collaboration with academics and researchers in Latin America and the Caribbean. Up to 2 pages of additional materials (citations, images, etc.) may be included, if necessary).
- Detailed Budget (must reflect other sources of funding, if any).
- Curriculum Vitae (5 pages max. for each PI, co-investigator, and collaborator).
- Letter verifying collaboration from collaborating institution when applicable.
- In preparing a proposal, the applicant should remember that DRCLAS is a University-wide center and therefore reviewers may need brief background information to fully appreciate what might be of obvious importance to someone within a particular discipline.

Funds may be applied to travel-related expenses for participating speakers, including airfare, lodging, meals, transportation, visa fees, and vaccines; fees for catering, recording, livestreaming, translation/interpretation, and other services essential to the event. Events-Based Grants may not be used to cover or supplement speaker honoraria, faculty salary, research staff salary, student tuition or stipends, administrative salaries, indirect costs, computer hardware, office-related equipment, and cannot be used to replace existing sources of funding. Additional restrictions may apply, at the committee’s discretion.
