#  Sol Carbonell Named Executive Director of the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS)

Cambridge, MA – The David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS) welcomes a new era of leadership with the appointment of Sol Carbonell as Executive Director, following an extensive search and consultation process involving faculty, staff, the Vice Provost’s office, and the Social Science Division leadership.

In a recent announcement, Steven Levitsky, DRCLAS’s Faculty Director, praised Sol’s exceptional organizational, management, and leadership skills. He highlighted her impressive performance as both Associate Director and Interim Executive Director, noting her quick learning, effective execution, and sound judgment. “This was a truly open and competitive process, and Sol won the job,” he wrote. “DRCLAS will soon celebrate 30 years of existence, and I could not think of a better person to work alongside me and the rest of the faculty in developing our vision for what we want to accomplish over the next 30.”

Carbonell brings over 20 years of diverse experience to her new role, including almost ten years at the Federal Reserve System. As part of the senior leadership team at DRCLAS, she has advised the Center’s Faculty Director on a range of strategic areas, including programming, faculty and student engagement, fundraising, staffing, and budgeting. She has also managed resource planning and overseen internal and external communications and outreach strategies, in addition to overseeing DRCLAS offices in Brazil, Chile, and Mexico.

“I am honored and excited to take on the role of Executive Director at DRCLAS,” said Carbonell. “I look forward to advancing the center’s mission, engaging faculty from across Harvard, and collaborating with our extensive network of partners in Latin America. DRCLAS has a strong history of impact and a terrific team in Cambridge and abroad. I am thrilled to continue building on their success.”

Carbonell holds a Master in Public Administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. She also studied at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Buenos Aires in her native Argentina and the MIT Sloan School of Management. Her extensive advisory roles include contributions to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute and the Association of Latinos for America. She has been a gubernatorial appointee to many task forces and boards, and currently serves on the advisory board of the Boston Museum of Science. Her leadership has been recognized by the U.S. Congress, InBusiness Magazine, the Boston Business Journal, and Amplify Latinx.

The appointment has been met with enthusiasm from the DRCLAS team. With her wealth of experience and proven leadership capabilities, Sol Carbonell is well-positioned to lead DRCLAS into its next chapter.
