DESCRIPTION:<p>	<strong>Speaker</strong>: Leila Lehnen, Associate Professor and Chair, Brown University</p><p>	<strong>Moderator</strong>: Bruno Carvalho, Professor, Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, Harvard University</p><p>	<strong>Leila Lehnen</strong> is Associate professor of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies at Brown University. She specializes in contemporary Brazilian literature. Her thematic areas of research include the representation of citizenship, human rights, social justice in literary and cultural production. Her book Citizenship and Crisis in Contemporary Brazilian Literature examines the portrayal and critique of differentiated citizenship (Holston 2008) in contemporary Brazilian literature. She has published articles on citizenship, social justice and human rights in Brazilian and Spanish American literature, among other topics. Currently she is working on a book that broaches democracy as a literary trope and modus operandi. The book examines how democracy is represented in contemporary Brazilian literature and how literary production has – to an extent– become democratized in recent years.</p>
