A través del diálogo entre el pianista y compositor Chucho Valdés y el Prof. Yosvany Terry, Narrativas Musicales ahondará en la vida y obra artística de Valdés, su concepción del Jazz y la música en general, sus contribuciones a la música cubana, y su visión sobre el futuro de esta.
The Cuban pianist, composer and arranger Chucho Valdés is one of the most influential figures in modern Afro-Cuban jazz. Born into a family of musicians in Quivicán, Havana province, Cuba, Dionisio Jesús "Chucho" Valdés Rodríguez, has distilled elements of the Afro-Cuban music tradition, jazz, classical music, rock and more, into an organic, personal style that has both, a distinct style and substance. Valdés is six-time Grammy Award winner and three-time Latin Grammy Award Winner. He has been named 2019 Jazz Master in Residence at Harvard University.
Yosvany Terry is Senior Lecturer on Music and Director of Jazz Ensembles at Harvard University. Born into an illustrious musical family in Camaguey, Cuba, Yosvany Terry is an internationally acclaimed composer, saxophonist, percussionist, bandleader, educator and cultural bearer of the Afro-Cuban tradition. After immsersing himself in the European classical tradition at Havana’s prestigious National School of Arts (ENA) and Amadeo Roldan Conservatory he went on to perform with major figures in every realm of Cuban music, including celebrated nueva trova singer/guitarist Silvio Rodriguez, pianists Chucho Valdes and Frank Emilio, and Don Pancho y Los Terry, the band led by his father, violinist and shekere master Eladio “Don Pancho” Terry Gonzales.
