With activists in prison, exiled, or killed, what options remain for the opposition? One year on, we look at the roots and trajectory of Nicaraguan civil resistance campaign.</p><p>	<strong>Kai Thaler</strong> is Assistant Professor of Global Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Fellow at the Sie Cheou-Kang Center for International Security and Diplomacy at the University of Denver's Josef Korbel School of International Studies. He is the author of the 2017 article "Nicaragua: A Return to Caudillismo" in the <em>Journal of Democracy,</em> and his commentary on Nicaragua has been carried by outlets including the BBC, France24, and the Washington Post. He received his PhD in Government from Harvard University.</p><p>	 </p>
