Decarbonization will transform global production and trade patterns so radically that new growth opportunities are bound to arise for Latin America and the Caribbean. The panel will discuss those opportunities considering the Inter-American Development Bank's vision for the energy transition in the region.
Ricardo Hausmann is the founder and Director of Harvard’s Growth Lab and the Rafik Hariri Professor of the Practice of International Political Economy at Harvard Kennedy School. Under his leadership, the Growth Lab has grown into one of the most well-regarded and influential hubs for research on international development.
Lenin H. Balza is an economist in the Infrastructure and Energy Sector of Inter-American Development Bank. He is currently responsible for designing, coordinating and supervising projects in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, and Guyana, as part of the special group on Mining, Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy. Previously, Balza worked in the Energy Division at the IDB, at Santander Investment (Grupo Santander), and at the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF). He holds a degree in economics from Universidad Central de Venezuela, postgraduates studies in economics from Torcuato Di Tella University, and a master’s degree in economic development from Harvard University.
Araceli Clavijo is an environmental scientist, currently postdoctoral researcher, working on strategic water management and governance issues within the Water-Energy Nexus approach, in the general framework of Political Ecology. Interested in water governance, environmental justice, socio-environmental conflicts, knowledge co-production, science policy formulation, emerging participatory approaches and the socio-political processes of transformation occurring in the territories.
José Ignacio Hernández is Professor of Administrative Law at the Universidad Central de Venezuela and the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello, both in Venezuela. He also teaches Economic Constitutional Law in the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello.
