Andrew J. Suárez is a PhD candidate in American Studies at Harvard University. His dissertation examines the comparative history of LGBTQ & feminist Chicano/a/x and Mexican activism through print culture from the mid-twentieth century to the present. By reading activist periodicals, organizational newsletters, tabloids, mail art, literature, essays, and zines, he charts a tradition of alternative publishing and reading publics amongst these communities that upended norms of gender & sexuality and cried out for liberation. His research interests also include revolutionary struggles in Latin America, ephemera and the archive, diaspora, and the political projects of queerness and latinidad.
