Maria López Portillo directs three strategic programs for researchers: the Visiting Scholars and Fellows program, the Robert F. Kennedy Visiting Professorship in Latin American Studies, and Faculty Grants. As Program Director, Maria is involved in all stages of these programs, engaging with faculty at Harvard and with researchers across the Americas to welcome them to DRCLAS.

Maria holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Brown University. As part of her research, she collected archival and documentary sources to study indigenista bureaucracies in 20th-century Mexico. While at Brown University, Maria worked at the Provost’s Office. In this position, she was part of a Task Force for faculty advancement. Previously, she worked as a policy consultant in her native Mexico City, participating in multiple evaluations of federal and state programs.

Maria also holds an M.A. in Sociology from Brown University, an M.A. in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago, and a B.A. in Political Sciences from El Colegio de México.
