 UNODC is a global leader in the fight against illicit drugs and international crime. Established in 1997 through a merger between the United Nations Drug Control Programme and the Centre for International Crime Prevention, UNODC operates in all regions of the world through an extensive network of field offices.

 **Internship Description**

 This UNODC's internship programme offers eligible students from bachelor's or master's degrees the opportunity to contribute to the design of an evaluation and certification system for Mexican prisons within the United Nations Advanced Prison Standards (UNAPS) project.

 The project is set to be developed in three stages:

- Preparation of a first draft of the standards, indicators, and evidence-gathering tools
- Piloting of the standards, indicators, and tools in 16 prisons
- Nationwide launch

 The intern will be working in the development of the second stage, specifically in our statistical tool called the National Penitentiary Atlas, a database from a survey comprised of 98 questions, the purpose is to gather information from all of the prisons in the country concerning 5 specific criteria:

- General information
- Infrastructure and services
- Security and technology
- Administration and human resourcves
- Activities and services for social reintegration

 The objective of this internship programme is to give a first-hand impression fo the working environment of UNODC in Mexico.

 **Intern Qualifications**

- Bachelor's or Master's degree students in law, political science, economy or other science
- Proven experience in database analysis
- Experience in Stata, R, or Python
- Advanced level in Spanish; the project requires students to write reports in Spanish and to maintain effective communication with our counterparts
- Interest in UNODC's field of work in crime prevention, criminal justice reform, and the promotion and protection of human rights
- Experience in crime prevention, criminal justice reform, and the promotion and protection of human rights
- Experience in applied social research (surveys and interviews)

 **Benefits**

 At the end of the process, a UNODC's internship certificate will be awarded for the participants. The UNODC's internship programme in Mexico doesn't offer any type of stipend or economic retribution for the activities of this project.
