Join Adriana Zenteno Hopp, PhD candidate at Harvard’s History Department, as she examines how Native and Afro-Andean communities in 17th-century Peru and Bolivia recalled the pre-Columbian and early colonial past. Through judicial, literary, and material sources—including origin stories, oral histories, and religious customs—she uncovers how these narratives functioned as powerful vehicles of collective and individual memories within native communities. Her analysis sheds light on how native Andean peoples viewed and experienced colonialism.
