Nicole Jenne: The Domestic Origins of No War-Community

Why is it that in certain regions interstate war has rarely occurred? Join us for a panel discussion with Nicole Jenne, DRCLAS 2026 Cisneros Visiting Scholar, about this crucial topic. In her upcoming book, Jenne argues that states in South America and Southeast Asia have managed conflict short of war due to domestic fragility. 

By analyzing critical territorial crises that nearly led to armed conflict, this study reveals how the urgent need for internal security creates a powerful, lasting incentive to keep the peace with neighbors. Nicole Jenne will be joined by Jon Caverley (U.S. Naval War College) and Mattias Fibiger (Harvard Business School). The panel will be moderated by Kathryn Sikkink, Ryan Family Professor of Human Rights Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School.
