Unspeakable: Ten Years After Ayotzinapa

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the forced disappearance that occurred in Iguala, Guerrero, Mexico, on September 26, 2014.
Forty-three students from the Rural Normal School of Ayotzinapa vanished that night. Their families, along with hundreds of collectives, NGOs, and other students, have continued the fight to unearth this State Crime and above all, to recover those who are missing.
A roundtable will gather a diversity of disciplinary approaches to the unspeakable. The event will feature a roundtable with Anabel Hernández, Diane E. Davis, and Oswaldo Zavala, discussing their work on Mexico's violence, followed by a keynote address by Prof. Claudio Lomnitz of Columbia University.
Roundtable Speakers: Anabel Hernández, investigative journalist and author of eight books including "La Verdadera Note de Iguala: La history que el gobierno tart de ocular" (A Massacre in Mexico: the True Story Behind the Missing Forty Three).
Diane E. Davis, Charles Dyer Norton Professor of Regional Planning and Urbanism at Harvard Graduate School of Design and Co-Chair of the Mexico Studies Program at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies.
Oswaldo Zavala, Professor of Contemporary Latin American Literature and Culture at the College of Staten Island and at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY).
Moderator: Andrea Garza Erdmann, a graduate student in the Department of Romance Languages & Literatures at Harvard University.
Keynote: Claudio Lomnitz, Campbell Family Professor and Chair of the Department of Anthropology at Columbia University and member of Mexico's El Colegio Nacional.
Introduction by Alejandra Vela Martínez, Assistant Professor of Romance Languages and Literatures at Harvard University.
