Health Reform and Community Medicine Program

The three-week, 2.5-credit January course is available for graduate students, primarily from MPH and undergraduates, to observe the Chilean health system and its public health and primary care innovations, including an essential public-private partnership and developing a family medicine approach to community health. 

Chile has been at the forefront of the primary health system and health sector reforms, serving as a model for several countries worldwide and making new efforts to design and approve a broader health sector reform. Every year since 2004, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and undergraduate students visit Santiago in January for three weeks to participate in a for-credit course, open to Chilean residents in Family Medicine from the Medical School and MPH students from the Public Health School of the Catholic University. Their unique perspectives and expertise contribute significantly to the program.
