Fernando Reimers Receives Prestigious Premio Enrique Anderson Imbert 2025 from ANLE

The Academia Norteamericana de la Lengua Española (ANLE) has honored two distinguished figures of Hispanic studies in the United States with the 2025 Premio Nacional Enrique Anderson Imbert, renowned Mexican writer Carmen Boullosa and Venezuelan education scholar Fernando Reimers. Reimers is a professor of International and Comparative Education at Harvard University and serves on the Executive Committee as well as the Andes and Southern Cone Committee of the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS).

The award recognizes lifetime achievements by individuals whose work has significantly contributed to the study and dissemination of Hispanic language and culture across the United States. The jury highlighted Reimers’ sustained commitment to promoting multidimensional and bilingual education, especially initiatives aligned with sustainable development goals in underserved socio-economic contexts.

In his acceptance remarks, Reimers expressed profound gratitude and humility “I am deeply honored to receive the Premio Enrique Anderson Imbert from ANLE, a recognition that carries the legacy of a literary figure whose humanistic scholarship has deeply influenced the study of Hispanic literature. This award inspires me to continue advocating for inclusive and equitable education that addresses the pressing social and cultural challenges of our time. I congratulate Carmen Boullosa, whose distinguished career I greatly admire, and with whom it is a privilege to share this distinction.”

Nuria Morgado, Director of ANLE, praised both laureates for illuminating contemporary Hispanic experience through their creative and intellectual excellence, noting the power of critical thought, poetic expression, and educational action to transform communities.

This marks the twelfth edition of the Premio Enrique Anderson Imbert, joining a prestigious list of previous recipients who have shaped Hispanic scholarship in the United States.

Fernando Reimers’ leadership role within DRCLAS reflects the Center’s mission to strengthen Harvard’s research, educational, and convening capabilities focused on Latin America, the Caribbean, and their diaspora communities.
