Parry Lecture Fund

The applications for the DRCLAS Parry Lecture Funds are now closed. The next call for proposals will open in early Fall 2026. 

The David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS) is pleased to invite applications from Harvard Faculty for the Parry Lecture Fund. The Fund was established to honor John Parry, distinguished Gardiner Professor of Oceanic History and Affairs at Harvard University, who died in 1982, and was deeply interested in Latin America, Colonial History and Maritime History. DRCLAS will provide a grant of up to $4,000 dollars to selected faculty to support a lecture or lecture series on Latin American and Caribbean History, Colonial History of the region, or Maritime History.

Eligibility 

The applicant must be a Lecturer, Senior Preceptor, Assistant, Associate or full Professor employed full-time by Harvard University in any Harvard Department or School. Prior applicants and awardees to this fund from past years are welcome to apply again. The direct participation of the applicant Faculty is required to be considered eligible.  

Note that only applications proposing a lecture or lecture series on Latin America and Caribbean History will be considered for this grant.  

How to Apply

Faculty applicants must submit the application form and all supporting documents before the deadline. 

In preparing a proposal, the applicant should remember that DRCLAS is a University-wide center and therefore reviewers will need brief background information to fully appreciate the proposed the lecture or lecture series.

  • Fill out the application form (currently closed)

The application form will ask you to upload the following documents directly into the application:  

  • Proposal (up to 1,000 words that succinctly describe the proposed lecture or lecture series, its significance, expected impact, participation of Harvard students and faculty, and any proposed collaboration with academics and researchers in Latin America and the Caribbean. Up to 2 pages of additional materials (citations, images, etc.) may be included, if necessary).
  • Detailed Budget (must reflect other sources of funding, if any).
  • Short bio of proposed speakers, moderators, discussants and any other presenter in the lecture or lecture series.
